'Wizard of Oz' to be performed at PHS
By Joel Stottrup
A tornado will visit Princeton High School's performing arts center this November with the presentation of the classic musical, "The Wizard of Oz."
Something unique about the production for PHS is that for the first time the cast will include both high school and middle school students.
The reason is that there was a large cast (112 members) to fill. There are enchanted trees, flying monkeys, poppies, munchkins, and various citizens of Oz.
The main cast members are:
Dorothy - Sam Olson
Aunt Em - Jessica Haldenwanger
Uncle Henry/Winkie General - Jon Fillafer
Zeke/Cowardly Lion - William Workman
Hickory/Tin Man - Andy Rosevold
Hunk/Scarecrow - Nick Broten
Miss Gultch/Wicked Witch - Aly Gunstrom
Prof. Marvel/Wizard of Oz - Joe Grover
Glinda the Good Witch - Hilary Street
Emerald City Guard - Ben Kampa
Nikko - Jac Crawford
PHS English instructor Leanne Olmstead is the artistic/assistant director, Fred Street is in charge of lighting and sound, Susan Potvin is the choreographer and piano accompanist, PHS band director Lee Peterson will be the pit orchestra director, Mary Ann Workman is costume director, and Deanne Kampa is the production manager.
Performances will be Nov. 3, 5, 6, 10, 12 and 13. Tickets will be for reserved seating, costing $4 for students and $6 for all others. They go on sale Oct. 1 at Frank's Hallmark in Princeton.
Director Mark Potvin says the production will follow the MGM movie of "The Wizard of Oz" closely and says it will be one where people will want to see it a second time.
More volunteers are needed to help with the production. Call 389-4947 if interested.
